The history of the Pechanga Casino Temecula starts with the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians, who have called Temecula Valley their home for more than 10,000 years, key to this lengthy existence was a spring in a nearby canyon that provided them with water; the spring was always called Pechaa’a (from pechaq = to drip) and this spring is the namesake for Pechaa’anga or Pechaanga, which means ‘at Pechaa’a, at the place where water drips’.

On a side note, the Luiseno Indians that run the Pechanga Cultural Center boast one unique and very interesting feature that attracts a lot of visitors – “the Great Oak” – the largest natural-growing native oak tree in North America. This ancient tree is believed to have watched over the surrounding land for as many as 1,500 years. This beautiful and majestic tree is not only an environmental wonder, but regarded as an important symbol for the people of Pechanga, symbolizing wisdom, strength and determination.
