Explore a Temecula art gallery by Rich Stergulz and you’ll encounter the irrepressible spirit of an Illinois native who found his lifelong passion for art by the age of eight. After graduating from the American Academy of Art in Chicago in 1983, he embarked upon a very successful commercial art career.
Twelve years into the commercial art business and Rich decided to take his skills to a more personal level. He soon turned his attention to the challenging, creative world of fine art.
A move to the stunning California region in 1995 gave him the inspiration he needed to send him into a creative flurry. Who can resist the breathtaking landscapes, gorgeous climactic scenes and the picturesque charm of Southern California locals.

Rich was able to further his talent as a artist by following a realistic style, and to do so he drew upon hints of Russian impressionism – an approach he admires for its use of fiery, passionate brush strokes.
Another role model in the art world is Norman Rockwell, who he believes possessed an impressive drawing talent that spanned an lifetime of work and resulted in a very real impact on society.
Rich has also been quoted as saying that he wishes to produce works of art that reflect his soul, as well as develop emotion in those who come in contact with his artistic expression.
The influence of John Singer Sargent, who was known to deliver an entertaining dose of reality with the accuracy of an artist’s touch, can also be observed deeply embedded in Rich’s approach to portrait work

Over the years, Rich’s paintings have gained both national and international recognition – winning a collection of awards such as “Best in Show” and the “People’s Choice” and placing him solidly as one of the best portrait artists in the world. Wine Country in “Temecula Winery in Autumn” – an 18 x 24 oil painting full of inviting shades of green, blends of burnt umber and gold, and with a backdrop displaying the great expanse of blue-gray mountains that Temecula locals enjoy everyday.
A Temecula art gallery by Rich Stergulz may also include other creations that go beyond the beauty of Southern California and the wine country, such as the mesmerizing pieces displayed at the online Saatchi Gallery in London, England.
It’s well worth looking through, it is here that a majestic Poseidon emerges from a sea of soft blues and turquoise dreams and where Stergulz captures PGA golf instructor Don Bird in vivid detail with a striking oil portrait in which the subject appears to walk right out of the painting.
